Congratulations on your intended wedding! You are entering into a very special but very busy time. There are many things you need to arrange, such as a wedding location. If you are looking for somewhere that is intimate, supremely romantic and with a traditional atmosphere, then Hofwijck is just the place for you. Huygens’ Hofwijck in Voorburg is the famous seventeenth century country estate that belonged to Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens and is one of the most important monuments from the Golden Age of the Netherlands. The harmonious house and unique historical garden offer a beautiful backdrop for your special day. Besides the actual ceremony, we can also provide a wedding lunch, high tea, reception or dinner as desired.

Hofwijck is an ideal location, whether your wedding party is large or small. Our special wedding packages allow you to complement your ceremony with a festive prosecco party or drinks reception and a stylish dinner, for example. Of course this can be hosted in the historic Pronkzaal at Hofwijck, but if the weather is fine our beautiful garden is also available. Hofwijck works together with a number of high-quality caterers whose task it is to provide you and your guests with a stress-free and enjoyable culinary experience. Every wedding is unique and every couple has its own wishes and requirements, so we will be pleased to discuss the options available to you in a personal meeting. The wedding ceremony takes place in the historic Pronkzaal at Hofwijck. The hall can accommodate 20 guests seated and has standing room for another 35 guests. Wedding ceremonies can take place at the following times:

Wednesdays at 10:00 and 12:00

Thursdays at 10:00 and 12:00

Fridays at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00

Saturdays at 10:00 and 12:00

Huygens’ Hofwijck is an official wedding location in the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. You will need to book the legal solemnisation of your marriage at the marriage desk of the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. The cost of the civil marriage ceremony is set by the municipal authorities. To arrange your wedding lunch, drinks reception or dinner, or to discuss any other catering requirements, please contact Huygens’ Hofwijck.

The elegant house and beautiful historic garden form a perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs. You must book in advance.

Guided tour

If you would like to share the unique story of Hofwijck, the Golden Age of the Netherlands and Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens with your wedding guests, why not book a guided tour? The cost per guide is €50.00 (maximum 20 people per guide).

Meetings

Are you looking for a meeting venue that has excellent public transport and road links? A venue in a park setting where you and your colleagues or business relations are the exclusive guests? Then Huygens’ Hofwijck, the seventeenth-century country estate of Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens, is the ideal location.

Hofwijck offers you the choice of two meeting rooms. The Pronkzaal in the main building can accommodate around 20 guests in a conference seating arrangement and up to 45 guests in a theatre seating arrangement. The Hofpoortzaal in the entrance building can seat a maximum of 16 guests (conference seating arrangement).

Your meeting at Hofwijck can be combined with a breakfast, lunch, drinks reception or dinner. And to relax between sessions or round off the day, you can book a guided tour of the house and garden, giving your guests the opportunity to see the Golden Age of the Netherlands through the eyes of father and son Huygens. Constantijn was a poet, musician and advisor to the House of Orange. His world-famous son Christiaan Huygens, who also lived and worked at Hofwijck for a long time, is one of the most important scientists in the history of the Netherlands.

Dinner seating:   
up to around 30 guests. Dinner will be served in the Pronkzaal. Pre- and post-dinner drinks are served in the traditional Dutch kitchen room.

Standing Buffet: 
up to around 65 guests. In the traditional Dutch kitchen and the Pronkzaal.

Reception:           
up to around 80 guests. In the traditional Dutch kitchen and the Pronkzaal.

Receptions are held in the Pronkzaal and the traditional Dutch kitchen, the exhibition rooms function solely as museum. However, guests are free to visit the rooms during the explanation of the house and the Huygens family. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the museum.
